Music Channels
Introduction
Music channels are important due to the fact that they allow artists to promote their songs over a wide platform. This gives artists a bigger opportunity to reach their target audience as they know that their viewers frequently watch these channels to find artists new music. There are many different music channels within television right now, although they serve the same purpose there are well known channels such as; MTV Music, BET 106 & Park and MTV Base etc.
Today's TV music channels tend to serve and promote a variety of genre's. This is so that they can cater to the different artists within the industry and also the audiences' taste. Music channels have sky rocketed since MTV was launched in 1981 and there are now over 40 music channels to help artists gain recognition and ratings, in order to make the charts.

- Stars
- Channel U
- Smash
- Box
- Vault
- Club TV
- 4 Music
- Kiss
- VH1
- BET 106 & Park
What genre's are under-represented and why?
Genre's such as Gospel and Opera can be associated as under represented genre's. This is due to the fact that there is not a high demand from their niche audiences for this particular genre, thus causing a shortage of artist's producing e.g. gospel music/opera music. This then further means there will be less music TV channels that promote these genre's.
However, the advantage of having so many channels for certain genres is that a wider audience can be gained from viewing artists videos on different channels. Also, this will cause a success for the music industry who help promote the music on different platforms, which is known as 'Synergy'. This will help make the industry and artist a large amount of profit/money.
Conclusion
In conclusion, in terms of my own video, the music channels I am confident it will play on are: BET 106 & Park, MTV channels, Kiss, Viva and Box. This is due to my video being applicable for these channels because of the follow of conventions to the genre and audience intended for.
A good start, and some channels identified with what the appeal is of the music video, however post is not complete.
